In Response to the Discovery of Mass Graves at Former Residential Schools Featured

Published in News.

With profound sadness, the students, staff, and faculty extend our sincere condolences to the peoples of the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc and Cowessess First Nations. Also, to all other First Nations of Canada who have been affected or traumatized by these horrific discoveries. This news is but another instance of the indignities and injustices directed toward the Indigenous peoples of Canada. We echo with solidarity the voices who call upon the federal government, churches, and private landowners to immediately and without exception, act upon the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action to release records, to develop and maintain a registry of deaths, to inform families about children who died in residential schools, and to provide funds to support the maintenance, commemoration, and protection of residential school cemeteries (Under heading Missing Children and Burial Information sections 71 - 76.)
